Wedding Magic at Breaffy House

A Beautiful Wedding At Breaffy House

Rua (Paul Gleeson) is the star of TG4’s ten-part magic, mind reading and Escapology TV series ‘Draíocht’, which currently airs Thursdays at 18.25pm. He co-curated Science Gallery Dublin’s ILLUSION exhibition in 2013, and also had a sellout 4 star show in the Dublin Fringe Festival. A student of magic history and the psychology of illusions, he is regularly hired to perform and speak for companies and Universities across Ireland. He has been featured on RTE’s The Saturday Night Show, TV3’s Morning Ireland, the BBC and every major radio station in Ireland. Rua has both a BA and Masters degree in Communication Studies from DCU, and currently makes a living as a TV Magician and performing Close-up magic at Weddings, Corporate Events and Private parties across Ireland, Europe and US.

Recently I was hired to perform at lovely Wedding party up in Co. Mayo at a beautiful location called Breaffy House, which is a stunning hotel and resort just outside Castlebar. I’ve performed here in past and the staff have always been absolutely wonderful, really courteous and really professional, this time was no exception. It makes all the difference in my industry when you’ve got great people to work with, so big hat tip to the lovely people at Breaffy House for doing such an amazing job. (You can check out their website here: www.breaffyhouseresort.com, and their Facebook page by clicking here.)

The couple (Kye and Clodagh) had hired me to perform at the Pre-meal reception for an hour and a half, the in between the different courses, and also to fill in the gap before the Band got set up and ready to play on the main stage. It was a long enough evening of performing, but of course the guests at Weddings are always in such amazing form, and so my performances always seem to go down a storm with lots of laughter and tons of inside jokes from different family members. This particular Wedding had a mixture of both Irish and English people from both sides of the family, so as you can imagine, the Banter was at an all time high and everybody was flying!

I got a really lovely email from the Bride and Groom, Kye & Clodagh after the Wedding, which I’ve included below:

Hi Rua,

Just wanted to drop you a quick email on behalf of myself and Clodagh to say a massive thank you for performing at our wedding, all our guests that were lucky enough to get to see you in action said you were absolutely fantastic and they were thoroughly entertained, I was certainly impressed with the see through card deck trick!!  From sitting at the top table we could hear the random bursts of applause which was great for both us to hear, you were also so easy to deal with and just went with the flow on the day, I didn’t expect you to be entertaining in between courses during the meal so that was great to see as well.  Overall great value for money and we’re delighted at the reaction we had to you from our guests.  I’d certainly recommend you to anyone for any function.

All the best for the future and once again thanks a million for your performance and professionalism on the day.

Kind Regards

Kye & Clodagh.

All in all a wonderful day, and a great example as to how effective Magic can be as an ice-breaker and to get people laughing, screaming and having a great time from the get-go straight after a long Wedding ceremony! In addition to that, they had booked a really wonderful Photographer named Claire Wilson who’s carved out a great name for herself in Ireland with thanks to her phenomenal eye for photography. If you’re looking for a Wedding Photographer, you really should check out her portfolio on her website here: www.gingerpixel.ie or her Facebook page here.

Here are a few shots she got of me on the day:
